Hi there!
I’m Kristin Dragos, a Mesa, Arizona artist painting the Sonoran Desert in bold color, luminous light, and a little mischief.
I create joyful, contemporary desert artwork inspired by the strange beauty of the landscape around me: towering saguaros, glowing skies, resilient plants, shifting color, and those brief moments when the desert seems almost otherworldly. Some pieces begin with a place I’ve seen, while others start with a simple question: “I wonder what would happen if…?”
That curiosity has followed me since I began painting in 2016 after working in a bland corporate office. Creating became a way for me to navigate anxiety and depression, reconnect with myself, and make room for more color and wonder. My work is painted by hand, whether I’m using traditional materials or working digitally with an iPad and Apple Pencil. Every brushstroke and artistic decision is my own.
Today, I’m actively creating new work from my Mesa studio and sharing it with collectors online and at art events throughout the Phoenix area. My work brings together painterly light, playful color, natural forms, and a distinctly human point of view. It is my version of Arizona: vibrant, surprising, and far more colorful than beige.

My inspiration usually begins with something that makes me pause: the glow of an Arizona sunset, the unexpected shape of a desert plant, a playful moment with my family, or a color combination I can’t stop thinking about. I’m especially drawn to the Sonoran Desert and the way it can feel resilient, whimsical, peaceful, and wonderfully strange all at once. I gather those observations and reimagine them through brighter color, painterly light, and a little creative curiosity.
I paint both digitally and with traditional materials, often blending the visual language of the two. My digital artwork is painted by hand in Procreate using an iPad and Apple Pencil, one brushstroke and artistic decision at a time. I experiment with painterly brushes, fluid textures, layered color, and luminous light to give each piece warmth and movement. Whether I’m working digitally or with acrylic paint, the process is distinctly human, guided by curiosity rather than a formula.
